"Why?" and "Why not?"

"Life's two most important questions are "Why?" and "Why not?". The trick is knowing which one to ask." - Gordon Livingston

As I sat down today to begin writing, these profound words from Mr. Livingston came to mind. In life you choose your attitude; positive or negative. I never understood how important this was until recently. I am a new believer in the fact that you may not choose your circumstance but you do choose your attitude while enduring it.

Over the past year all of my questions became "whys?".  You can literally drive yourself insane asking why, that is until you turn the question around and ask "why not?". I believe in every circumstance  you can ask why or why not; one is positive and one is negative, you must choose which you will ask.

Which question are you avoiding? A few of mine are listed below to get you thinking...

Why....start a blog, people will know what I'm going through. (NEGATIVE)
Why not... start a blog. (POSITIVE)
*Character is who you are when no one is watching, reputation is what everyone thinks you are.  Let people see the real you!

Why not... just quit helping youth if I'm not a youth leader. (NEGATIVE)
Why.... must I be a youth worker to help youth. (POSITIVE)
* Youth Leader is a title/position, not a person.

Why...would I share the story of my dad's death- its awkward!(NEGATIVE)
Why not... share the story of my dad's death as an opportunity to help someone who may be hurting and can't talk about it. (POSITIVE)
*Pay it forward- all the time that people have invested in you, invest in others. You may really help someone.

Why....keep going life is over now. (NEGATIVE)
Why not... start a new life, ministry, or whatever else you want. (POSITIVE)
*You can let one circumstance define your life or you can redefine your life from one circumstance.

Why not...just quit now, there is no future. (NEGATIVE)
Why ... let the past keep you from the future? (POSITIVE)
*There's always someone who needs loved, live for those people and love them!
